Bientôt bientôt mon 2e disque sort 🙂 J’ai très très hâte, d’autant plus qu’il me tient particulièrement à coeur. Les chansons que je vais vous présenter là, c’est pas moi qui les ai écrites, mais j’ai l’impression que si, parce que je les écoute et les chante depuis que je suis toute petite.
Ce sont des chansons de Gospel, des chansons qui viennent pour la majorité de Negro Spirituals, ou “Spirituals”, et pour tout vous dire, ce terme plus général et universel me parle bien, c’est d’ailleurs comme ça que l’Ep s’appellera, Spiritual. Ces chansons sont des prières, des louanges qui ont traversé les époques.
Ces airs ont déjà connu multiples interprètes : Louis Armstong, Aretha Franklin, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Lauryn Hill… La liste est longue. Chacun d’entre eux y a mis sa pâte, sa propre sensibilité, chacun a personnalisé sa prière. J’avais envie de faire la mienne aussi (en toute modestie bien sûr 😉 )
Certains y verront des prières à Dieu, à Jésus, certains en ressentiront simplement la force spirituelle qui s’en dégage, ou juste un peu d’amour. C’est comme ça que j’ai essayé de faire ce disque : Une grande prière humaine, ouverte à toute interprétation, à toute spiritualité.
Et pour l’enregistrement de ce disque, j’ai eu un coup de bol. Un soir en rentrant, je me suis rendue compte qu’en face de chez moi (littéralement en face) il y avait un studio d’enregistrement. J’ai toqué à la porte, et dedans, il y avait Paulo. Paulo est ingénieur du son, et c’est lui qui gère le StudioPub (c’est un studio, et un bar en même temps !) depuis quelques années ici à Sao Paulo. On a le même age, et on s’est tout de suite bien entendus.
Ca tombait bien. Apres avoir enregistré mon EP l’année dernière toute seule chez moi, j’avais envie d’essayer de passer l’étape au dessus, et de passer un peu de temps en studio. Mais bon, le temps en studio, ça coûte cher… Mais ça vaut le coup. Du coup j’ai dépensé les sous que vos commandes de l’année dernière m’avaient permis de mettre de coté, j’ai économisé un peu de mon côté, et j’ai pu enregistrer mes chansons avec Paulo. Et c’était génial. Parce qu’en plus de permettre d’avoir un son tip top, Paulo a pris le projet à coeur, et y a contribué avec sa touche personnelle. Le projet c’est enrichi de cette collaboration. Et ça, c’était inestimable.

Very very soon, my second disc will be released 🙂 I am looking forward to it, especially because this project is very dear to me. I did not write the songs I am about to present to you, but in a way, I feel like they are a part of me because I have been listening and singing them since I am a little girl.
They are Gospel songs, and most of them come fromNegro Spirituals, or Spirituals for short, and actually I like this word better, and this will be the name of the EP, Spirituals. These songs are prayers, songs of the spirits that crossed space and time. I wanted to make my own version of it, with my modest skills.
Some will listen prayers to God, Jesus, others will simply feel the spiritual strength emanating from them, or even, just a little bit of love. That’s what I wanted to do with this project: A big human prayer, opened to any interpretation, to any spirituality.
And for the recording of the disc, I had a luck stroke. One night when I came back home, I realized in front of my house there was a recording studio. I knocked, and inside was Paulo. Paulo is a sound engineer, and he is the one in charge of StudioPub (a bar as well as a studio!) here in Sao Paulo. We’re the same age, and we immediately got along well.
That was great. After recording my first EP alone at home last year, I wanted to try and take the next step to a professional sound, and spend time in a studio. But hey, studio time is expensive… But it is worth it. So I spent the money I had gathered from your orders last year, and I saved some money on my side too, and I was able to record my songs with Paulo. And it was awesome. Because on top of having a great sound, Paulo took a great interest in the project, and added his own touch. The music got richer with this collaboration. And that was inestimable.
